Dr Mat James is an addictions and adult general psychiatrist. He is a member of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry and holds a Certificate of Advanced Training in Addiction Psychiatry. Mat has a special interest in the complex interplay between addiction and mental illness, such as anxiety. He is published in multiple peer reviewed journals largely pertaining to addictions, and other interests such as non-pharmacological treatments for anxiety (CBT and mindfulness). He is actively involved in the public sector with current appointments as Staff Specialist and VMO Psychiatrist locally. Mat is engaged in teaching and training of junior Psychiatrists, supervision and site coordinator of training for the RANZCP at Tweed and Byron hospitals.
